Hello friends and alumni!
Last Thanksgiving, my son Charlie was invited to say grace for our family celebration. His response? "Grace!"
This typical child response received a chuckle from the group. His response, however, can be anything but typical for a child with special needs like Down syndrome.
Many of us reading this letter are blessed to know a child with special needs and have witnessed the extra support and care necessary to help that child reach their full potential. And many of us have been amazed at the persistence and strength that child shows when working towards milestones that come so easily to other children -- such as rolling over, drinking from a straw, and verbalizing a single word.
Your understanding and compassion for that child and their family makes a difference in their lives. On their behalf, we thank you.
The Candle Lighters' "Thanks4Giving" campaign is raising $30,000 for unfunded programs, like the Stepping Stones Early Intervention Program, to assist in the growth and well-being of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community. These programs provide critical therapy, counseling, and other benefits to children with Down syndrome and their families.
